FCA Becomes Newest Member of the Downtown Community

FOXBOROUGH, MA: Foxboro Cable Access Executive Director, Michael Webber, announced today that the community access group has purchased the commercial building at 26-28 Central Street in the center of town. “After a long and exhaustive search of local commercial and town properties,” Webber said, “ this building had the most desirable location, with handicapped accessibility , parking, and community visibility … along with right combination of space and versatility that will allow FCA to grow and continue to meets the needs of the town well into the future.” In a communication to members of the FCA Board of Directors, Chairman Paul Beck wrote, “It is with great joy that I share with you that this evening I scrawled my signature on many documents, all in our Corporate names, which bring to a final closure, a long struggle and ordeal in which we have all shared, and which will herald a new and bright beginning for FCA … These are proud moments for us as a Board.”

On April 20, 2007, FCA received official notice from Comcast that the studio space which they have occupied for 15 years would no longer be available for their use. Over the past three years thrity-five locations were identified and evaluated, including Foxborough High School, Chestnut Green and the VFW Building. Most commercial options were ruled out for financial reasons, technical accessibility to the cable INET (Institutional Network) or the general lack of ceiling height that is required to accommodate studio lighting. The FCA Board of Directors determined that sharing space in a public building presented other legal concerns, and potential limitations of access for volunteers and community members.

Liftoff Discovery!

After a week of delays, at 11:59 pm Friday night, Discovery lit up the night sky as it soared into space to rendezvous with the ISS.

On this 13 day resupply mission to the ISS, Discovery takes its crew of seven and a payload consisting of the Leonardo supply module, a refrigerator size rack of equipment, science experiments and the COLBERT treadmill, named in a NASA contest after comedian Stephen Colbert.

This is the 25th birthday of the space shuttle program's first mission in August of 1984.

More information on the STS-128's mission to the ISS coming this weekend.

Endeavour to land today

Endeavour to land today

After 16 days and 5 successful space walks, the Space Shuttle Endeavour is returning to earth today.

Entry Flight Director Bryan Lunney gave a "go" for payload bay door closure. The weather at Kennedy's Shuttle Landing Facility is currently forecast “go” for the first landing opportunity at 10:48 am  Mission control will continue to monitor the weather before making the decision at approximately 9:22 a.m. whether to give a "go"deorbit burn. The burn would occur at 9:41 am for that first landing opportunity.  The second landing opportunity for today is at 12:22 pm with deorbit burn at 11:16 am.  No other shuttle landing sites are being considered for a landing today. If weather prevents a landing today, alternate landing sites would be called up for Saturday.

Lift Off Endeavour!!

The sixth time was definitely a charm for the Space Shuttle Endeavour and its 7 member crew as Endeavour roared into a beautiful afternoon sky at 6:03pm.

Launch teams had been working no serious technical issues during the last 3 attempts but weather was the concern with the 3 most recent launch attempts being scrubbed because of lightning near the KSC launch and landing complex.

Today's weather cooperated later in the day at Kennedy and was go at the 3 other abort landing sites across the globe.

Endeavour will rendezvous with the ISS and dock Friday at 1:55pm.

The 16-day mission will feature five spacewalks and complete construction of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's
Kibo laboratory. Astronauts will attach a platform to the outside of the Japanese module that will allow experiments to be exposed to space.  The spacewalks will be on flight days 4, 6, 8, 10 and 13.

The STS-127 crew members are Commander Mark Polansky, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Dave Wolf, Christopher Cassidy, Tom Marshburn, Tim Kopra and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Julie Payette. Kopra will join the space station crew and replace Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata. Wakata will return to Earth on Endeavour to conclude a three-month stay at the ISS.

Watch it all live on Channel 12!

Did you know? Endeavour's 6 attempts at a launch is not a record. The record was set by STS-73 and STS-61c both having successful launches on their 7th attempt.
