Security Enhancements Will Be In Effect At All Gillette Stadium Ticketed Events In 2016

Stadium’s clear bag policy and metal detector screenings will be in effect at all ticketed events to ensure the safety of patrons and enhance the stadium experience.

Gillette Stadium’s 2016 calendar is filling up with more than 40 major sports and entertainment events already scheduled. In addition to being the full-time home of the New England Patriots (10 home games scheduled) and the New England Revolution (17 home matches scheduled) and a home for UMass football (four games scheduled), Gillette Stadium will also host a number of the summer’s hottest concerts, three Copa America international soccer matches, the world’s premier stadium SuperCross motorcycle circuit and a Monster Jam truck show.

To ensure the safety of its patrons and make it easier for them to gain access to the stadium on event day, Gillette Stadium has implemented several security enhancements that stadium officials want to make fans aware of in advance of the upcoming events season.

Gillette Stadium will be utilizing its clear bag policy and metal detectors to screen patrons at all stadium gate entrances prior to every stadium ticketed event in 2016, beginning with the New England Revolution’s home opener vs. D.C. United on March 12. Fans arriving for ticketed events at Gillette Stadium gates, plaza areas, or other areas where fans queue for entry into the stadium must have bags that are in compliance with the clear bag policy. Bags that are not in compliance will not be stored and must be returned to the patron’s vehicle. Please note that no personal bags or items may be left on MBTA trains traveling to Gillette Stadium on event day. A description of the style and size of the bags that will be allowed is described below:

  • Bags that are clear (see through) plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x12.”
  • One-gallon clear (see through) plastic freezer bag or similar.
  • Small clutch bags, not to exceed 8” x 5” x 2” (approximately the size of a hand), with or without a handle or strap, may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a small clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, diaper bags, non-approved seat cushions (including large traditional seat cushions that have pockets, zippers, compartments or covers), luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size. Please note, battery-powered heated clothing (i.e. jackets and socks) are also prohibited.

Prior to reaching the metal detectors for screening at all stadium gates, fans are asked to remove phones and cameras from their pockets to expedite the screening process. Unlike airport screening procedures, stadium security will not ask fans to remove loose change or keys from their pockets and they won’t need to remove their shoes or belts.

Fans will continue to be able to carry items allowed into the stadium, such as binoculars, cameras, smart phones, jackets and blankets.

Working personnel, including media, will continue to enter Gillette Stadium through designated gates where they will be subject to screening and bag inspections.
