Community Press Release
Limited service for morning and evening rush hours
The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), which operates the Commuter Rail system on behalf of the MBTA, have announced the new Commuter Rail Spring schedule, which will go into effect on May 20. All schedules will soon be available online at mbta.com/cr. The schedule includes the reopening of South Attleboro station for limited service during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
“The Healey-Driscoll administration and MBTA have been committed to reopening the South Attleboro train station, and we’re proud to take this step with our partners at Keolis to offer morning and evening trips this spring,” said MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng. “Offering these trips at South Attleboro is an important part of connecting communities across the Commonwealth through access to transportation. I thank our MBTA team, Keolis, Senator Feeney, and Representative Hawkins for developing a creative solution to welcome our South Attleboro passengers back to the Commuter Rail.”
“I am pleased that in partnership with the MBTA we have been able to adjust and increase service where possible based on feedback from passengers and communities,” said Abdellah Chajai, CEO and General Manager of Keolis.
South Attleboro station will reopen for three morning inbound trains and four evening outbound trains. Morning inbound trains will stop at 4:23 a.m., 6:11 a.m., and 7:21 a.m. Afternoon outbound trains will stop at 12:15 p.m., 3:14 p.m., 4:44 p.m., and 6:36 p.m.
“The partial restoration of commuter service at the South Attleboro Train Station is an important step forward towards providing Attleboro area residents with the public transportation they deserve and rely on,” said Senator Paul Feeney (D-Foxborough). “After years of uncertainty, I am heartened to see that there is momentum and movement to restore service to South Attleboro and am grateful that this administration sees the value in this important regional link. I look forward to continue working with the delegation, local leaders, Governor Healey, and our partners at the MBTA towards the timely and full reopening of this station.”
“It goes without saying that our office is thrilled,” said Representative James Hawkins (D-Attleboro). “I have been the driving force behind the repair and ultimate replacement of the station and we have been beating this drum consistently since 2019. With unwavering support from Senator Paul Feeney, I have lobbied hard with the MBTA, developed and fostered critical relationships, conjured up visibility and political capital, written multiple letters, provided hours of testimony from our office and constituents, and attended almost every meeting where I could say ‘don’t forget about Attleboro!’”
