Auditions To Take Place Saturday, September 7 (by appointment only)

The Un-Common Theatre Company is thrilled to announce auditions for their Fall Production of Seussical on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm with a Movement Call for all auditioners at 5:00pm. Auditions for students currently in grades 2-12 will be held at the South Foxboro Community Center, 382 South Street in Foxboro, MA and are by appointment only. All roles are available to all genders. The production’s creative team includes Director Anthony J Cox, Music/Orchestra Director Brittany Dyer and Choreographer Emily Garven. Seussical will be performed at The Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center in Foxboro on November 22-24, 2024. Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Seussical is fun for the whole family! Performers of all ages will be excited to portray the characters from the familiar Dr. Seuss fables.

For those who are out of practice or would like to improve their auditioning skills, Un-Common is also offering an Audition Workshop, taught by the Seussical production team of Anthony Cox, Brittany Dyer, and Emily Garven. This Audition Workshop is being held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm at a location TBD. A breakout session for parents will also be offered to introduce and review the process of the audition, the production and The Un-Common Theatre Company in general. The workshop fee, including the parent workshop, is $25 per child. Please email auditions@uncommontheatre.org to register.

At this time we anticipate being mask optional for auditions, rehearsals, and performances, but will continually monitor guidance from the CDC and the state of Massachusetts and reserve the right to update our policies as needed.
